With its combination of commercial rights, established infrastructure, and prime location in one of South Africa’s most sought-after reserves, this property is perfect for those looking to invest in tourism, conservation, or an exclusive bush lifestyle.
Selati Game Reserve spans approximately 28,000 hectares in Limpopo, South Africa, nestled between Gravelotte and Phalaborwa. It was officially established in 1993 through the amalgamation of multiple privately owned farms, with the founding landowners united by a conservation vision.

The land boasts an extensive heritage, from ancient hominid tools and rock art dating back over 85,000 years, to being part of the 19th-century gold rush—hence the name “Selati,” rooted in the Selati Gold Fields.
________________________________________
Selati is deeply committed to preserving its unique ecosystems and biodiversity through sustainable management practices, with an aim to build an enduring conservation legacy. Selati is managed collectively by the Selati Game Reserve Association (established in 1993), the reserve operates under a collaborative structure that coordinates land conservation, wildlife management, and communal oversight.
________________________________________
As a Big 5 reserve, the wilderness includes elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, and both black and white rhino, along with cheetahs, spotted and brown hyenas, sable antelope, eland, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, and various jackals. Upwards of 50 species of medium to large mammals roam the reserve. Over 310 bird species have been recorded, and the reserve is especially notable for hosting the only naturally occurring population of the critically endangered Lillie cycad (Encephalartos dyerianus)—found nowhere else on Earth.
________________________________________
Since 2016, Selati's in-house research team has led conservation-driven projects, focusing on monitoring wildlife through technology, collaborating with universities, and generating data to support ecological management. A dedicated research camp accommodates volunteers and scholars.

Volunteers play a critical role—supporting monitoring tasks, data collection, camera-trap maintenance, and sometimes participating in field operations like animal immobilizations for collaring or treatment. Programs generally run in cycles of two to four weeks, with longer stays accommodated.
________________________________________
Selati Game Reserve is a privately managed conservation sanctuary rooted in deep heritage and shaped by a strong ethos of ecological stewardship. Its remote location, low-impact safari model, rich biodiversity—including the unique Lillie cycad—and a strong research-volunteer framework, make it a compelling destination for the conservation-minded.
