At last, South Africa has moved to lockdown level two. Perhaps, the best change is the chance to truly explore your surroundings. George, on the Garden Route, will make you a tourist in your own city. From scenic drives, fantastic food stops, to wellness retreats, it never holds back the fun. So grab your favourite face mask, slip that hand sanitiser in your pocket, and choose your adventure from our list.

1. Get snap happy in nature

2. Dust off your hiking boots

After being cooped up indoors, taking to nature is a welcome treat. The Outeniqua Nature Reserve, near George, hosts incredible plant and animal life. As you trek one of the 10 hiking trails along the Outeniqua mountain face, look out for grey rhebucks, black eagles, and gorgeous succulents.

3. Make it a day of golf

Hit the golf scene in George and spark up some friendly competition. You have quite a few options in the area. George Golf Club has a well-maintained course that caters to all levels. 4. Tick off your culinary bucket list

Ordering in is cool. But, nothing beats dining out in George. Restaurants here boast a wonderful ambience and friendly hospitality typical of the Western Cape. Now with lockdown level two, you can even enjoy your favourite spirit. 101 Meade Street, The Fat Fish, and The Old Townhouse Restaurant are ready to serve you.

5. Get a much-needed makeover

Lockdown level two allows you to visit family and friends. Why not surprise them with a new you? In George, you can tame your lockdown beard or give your hair a fresh cut. The area is home to lock-loving haircare specialists like ShampU and Hair Legends.

6. Spoil yourself at a spa

The isolation. The boredom. The stress. Lockdown continues to leave its mark across the nation. Now's the time to focus on your health and wellbeing. Since advanced lockdown level three, spas have opened for business. Head to The Spa at Fancourt or Sanguine Spa, for some "me-time". You deserve it!

7. Take the kids to a farm

And not just any farm. Redberry Farm boasts a range of family-friendly activities that will bring a smile to your little ones. 8. Book a sip-and-swirl session

Haven't seen your squad in a while? Meet up at Houtbosch Wine & Craft Beer. You can do a tasting of their wines and try their new Houtbosch 1729 wood-matured gin. You can even put a gift box together for a special someone.

9. Trot down scenic trails

10. Outeniqua Family Market

Located opposite the Garden Route Mall, this market opens every Saturday. It's the go-to spot for fresh fruit and vegetables, fish, flowers, arts, and crafts. Rest assured, under lockdown the market has followed protocol to keep you as safe as possible.

11. Take a scenic drive through Montagu Pass

The Montagu Pass is a gravel road that runs between George and Harold. The Outeniqua mountain straddles the road, making for a breathtaking journey. It's a great opportunity for some fresh air and sunshine.

12. Uncover George's history

If the present isn't pleasant, you can go back in time with George's local museums. George Museum takes you through the area's background, its timber history, and the Anglo-Boer War.
