Boksburg and Benoni are two cities located on the East Rand of the Gauteng Province. Both are centrally located and literally in the hub of national and regional routes namely; the N3, N12, N17, R21, R29 and R555. Gold was discovered in Boksburg in 1887 and since then Boksburg has become one of the most important gold-producing towns in Gauteng. After gold was discovered in 1887, the Government built the first Post Office and the Mining Commissioner’s office. The Gold Mines are known to have the deepest and longest tunnels.
